Our Heritage Concert opens Town Hall’s 150th anniversary celebrations

Todmorden Orchestra is proud to open the celebrations marking 150 years of Todmorden’s magnificent Town Hall with a special concert on Saturday 22nd March at 7:30pm.
The programme celebrates our region’s rich musical heritage, featuring works by composers with connections to the north. The evening opens with ‘The Dividing Line’, a special commission by Todmorden-based composer Tim Benjamin, followed by Brahms’ Violin Concerto performed by internationally-acclaimed and Calderdale-raised violinist, Martyn Jackson.
Martyn played with Todmorden Orchestra when he was a teen. He studied at the Hochschule für Musik in Berlin and is a graduate of the Royal College of Music. He performs internationally and we are really excited to welcome him back to Todmorden.
The second half of the concert showcases British composers with northern ties, and the programme includes William Walton’s Crown Imperial Coronation March, Ernest Tomlinson’s Fantasia on Auld Lang Syne, George Butterworth’s The Banks of Green Willow, and Elgar’s Pomp and Circumstance March No. 4.
“The orchestra has performed in the Town Hall since 1915,” says Todmorden Orchestra Chairman John Moorhouse. “It’s a privilege to help launch these 150th anniversary celebrations in a venue that has been our home for so many generations. The Town Hall’s magnificent architecture has inspired countless musicians and audiences over the years, and we look forward to being part of its future.”
Tickets to the celebratory concert are free, thanks to support from Calderdale Council, Todmorden Town Council, National Lottery Heritage Fund and the Community Foundation for Calderdale.
However donations are welcomed to support our work bringing world-class soloists to Todmorden and making live orchestral music accessible to all through our family concerts.
Tickets are also available in person at Todmorden Information Centre.
