Watch our family concert film

Earlier in 2023 we hosted a family concert in partnership with Music for the Many. The concert marked the start of a three year partnership, supported by Calderdale Council’s Culture Fund.

Themed around the story of The Twits, the concert featured a specially selected mix of orchestra pieces to bring the story to life. Actor Joe England was our brilliant storyteller.

Ahead of the concert, Music for the Many worked with children at Ferney Lee and Shade primary schools in a series of music workshops. The children got to know the music and created music, dance and artwork that was performed and shown at the concert.

The orchestra was joined by several children who learn instruments with Music for the Many. We were delighted to welcome new horn, clarinet, flute and violin players. The concert ended with a very special performance of Bollywood classic, Chaiyaa Chaiyaa, complete with some young performers playing the tabla.

We were joined by a big audience, with tickets selling out in two days. Thanks to support from Calderdale Council, we were able to offer free tickets to the two classes working with Music for the Many along with a parent / carer. We also welcomed a group of families from Halifax and Rochdale through local charity Together We Grow.

The next chapters in the partnership include a youth orchestra and concert of South Asian music.
