Our 10/11/07 Autumn
Concert was a succes!
Exciting
and enjoyable events are planned by Todmorden Orchestra in the coming months,
and our recent autumn concert was one of
these. The outstanding horn soloist
Evgeny Chebykin gave an excellent performance with the Strauss
Horn Concerto No 1.. After the break the audience could listen to
the wonderful Brahms Symphony No 2. (pictures
and reviews of this concert).

Spring Concert
Fairy tales and sneezes
don't normally go together, unless you happen to be listening on Saturday
March 15th to Todmorden Orchestra's Spring Concert in the Town Hall. One mighty
sneeze will reverberate round the hall but don't worry. We promise it will
not put the audience at risk of a cold. This is a musical sneeze from Hungarian
folklore, the three opening bars in the popular Hary Janos Suite by
Zoltan Kodaly. In Hungarian fairy tales the listeners were not told
that the characters lived happily ever after. Instead, a sneeze by one of
the listeners was proof that what they were about to hear was true. Truth
or fiction the music which includes a rare appearance of the cimbalom, a Hungarian
version of the hammer dulcimer, is sure to be a popular item in the programme.
The remaining pieces are influenced by folk music and themes from other parts
of the world, the Karelia Suite from Sibelius' Finland; Bartok's
Romanian Folk Dances and the inspired Symphony No 9, From
the New World by Antonin Dvorak.
